A photo of my grandmother in the 40's. I love the shape of this white shirt -- the loose yet geometric shape and the way it hangs from her shoulders is so flattering in a boyish-40's way.

Her glasses are amazing, a perfect shape for her face. The turtleneck and cardigan combo is a little dangerous, but in this photo it looks right.

This photo was taken during her time in the CIA and she has a confidence, an authoritative presence, even in this old snapshot.

I just watched the Lost Boys last night. It's probably my favorite movie of all time. It's chock-full of classic one-liners and has both Coreys!

But that sick 80s vampire style, it just can't be beat.

Note the giant tooth earring on Dwayne (far left), as well as the snarling cheetah on his sweet leather jacket.

And the hair. All around, it is magnificent. Obviously, Kiefer Sutherland's character has the most fashion-forward hair-do. Fuck faux-hawks, man! this is a serious spiky-topped bleach-blonde mullet. Not for the faint of heart.

Not to mention the ill-ass "civilian wadrobe" that Sam rocks straight outta Phoenix. If people in Phoenix really dressed like this (and they don't, i've been there) I would move. I especially like the mis-matched patterns and the muted colors clashed with the bright red and yellow. Admit, it looks oh so right.

And Michael's sunglasses-- I always thought they were Wayfarers for some reason, but yesterday I realized they were awesome metal rimmed pseudo-aviator/wayfarers. Nice.

Do movies influence fashion in 2007 the way they did back in '87? If anything, it's the other way around. Street style informs film fashion. Which is pretty cool too I guess.

But everytime I need a little inspiration, I still have Santa Carla to set me back on track..

I'd like this to be primarily a fashion blog. However, my digital camera just broke so we may not be seeing many "current" fashions. Which is fine by me. All the sweet shit happened in the 70s and 80s anyway.

Case in point:
this picture of my father and his brothers circa 1978:

The late 70s and early 80s inspire me more than any other period in fashion.
I mean, look at these outfits. So casual, they're barely trying at all.
Sparsely accessorized, save some sweet-ass big glasses and the odd hat.
I'm so jealous of the offhand and un-selfconscious way they dressed. Hipsters wish they looked this cool.
Then again, hipsters probably aren't from Western Pennsylvania. they'll never look this good.
